A Chrome extension that scores the credibility of a source while a student writes a paper, using a tiered domain-trust system, and exports citations in MLA, APA, Chicago, and BibTeX.
The Challenge
Designing a credibility signal a student can actually trust — turning a tiered domain-trust system into a score that's honest about what it does and doesn't know.
The process
Domain-trust tiers
Defined the tiers that rank a source's domain by credibility.
Credibility scoring UI
Surfaced the score inline while the student researches.
Citation formatters
MLA, APA, Chicago, and BibTeX export from one source record.
Chrome Web Store submission
Packaged and submitted the extension for review.
Querryn is a Chrome extension for students writing academic papers: as you research, it rates how credible a source is using a tiered domain-trust system, so a questionable citation gets flagged before it ends up in a bibliography.
A credibility signal is only worth showing if a student can actually trust it.
It also does the tedious part — exporting citations in MLA, APA, Chicago, and BibTeX from the same source record — and it's been submitted to the Chrome Web Store. The design constraint was keeping the credibility signal honest: a tier is a useful heuristic, not a verdict.
